About The Position

Cargill's purpose is to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. Cargill is a family company providing food, ingredients, agricultural solutions and industrial products that are vital for living. This internship is within the Food Innovation team, a corporate research and development group that impacts Cargill's food and ingredient offerings. The scope includes projects from conception through commercialization. The team has expertise in sweeteners, starches, cocoa and chocolate, oils, plant and animal proteins, packaging engineering, and collaboration and external partnerships. This internship provides students with a background in food science or a related discipline the opportunity to apply knowledge in a commercial setting. The program is designed to provide students with appropriate projects that bring value to Cargill. We are looking for food scientists who are enthusiastic about the food industry, tackling product development, researching new ingredients and technologies, and collaborating across Cargill.

Requirements

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Food Science or related field, graduating between December 2027 - May 2028.
  • Able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer (May/June - August 2027).
  • Candidates must be geographically flexible and willing to relocate for an internship opportunity in Plymouth, MN.
  • Proven ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing Master of Science or PhD in Food Science or related field.
  • Starch or Biopolymer Chemistry knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Be assigned to one or two substantive projects.
  • Be the primary technical contributor for work on the project, with leadership support from the Food Innovation Research and Development team.
  • Gain immediate hands-on work experience in one of the world’s largest agribusiness companies.
  • Receive periodic and candid feedback on job performance.
