About The Position

This position will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit. The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. Requirements

  • High School student or post-secondary student
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Accepting, sorting, and properly storing food donations using Safe Food Handling Guidelines and Health & Safety Protocols.
  • Administrative work including answering phone/returning voicemail, interviewing/registering new clients in person and over phone.
  • Creating appointments, completing Food Banks Canada (Link2Feed) data base entries for clients served, creating statistical spreadsheets (excel), creating posters/signs (word/other).
  • Working with volunteers in their support roles and lending leadership to the team when necessary.
  • Warmly greeting clients in person and helping them to select the products wanted from what is available.
  • Working within fair share food guidelines, guiding clients with quantities of foods based on number of people in the household, adapting to daily changes in available products.
  • Setting up and tearing down the food distribution space, bringing items from fridges, freezers, and warehouse spaces.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting work areas, counters, tables etc. before and after the food bank.
  • Dealing with garbage & recycling daily.
  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Assisting with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in organization, appearance, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Working in compliance with NBH&S Act and Regulations and abiding by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performing other position related duties as required.
