About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant will provide basic medical care and health teaching to patients in an outpatient, non-emergency care setting for an outpatient medical practice.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Graduate of an approved school or institution for Medical Assistants with current certification required.
Current BLS Required
Strong pharmacological knowledge
Meets or exceeds level I & II

Responsibilities

Perform registration functions including check in, check out, and collect copays.
Assist provider in obtaining microbiological tests such as streptococcal testing, urine culture, wound culture, vaginal cultures, gram staining, sensitivity testing, and sputum culture.
Perform tuberculosis screen (Tine, Mantoux).
Screen and follow up patient test results, alerting the provider of abnormal results.
Upon provider order, discuss test results with patient and document conversation.
Instruct patient on diet modification and drug dosage modification.
Schedule patient for hospitalization, surgery, return office visits, outside provider visits, physical therapy, and other treatments.
Prepare and administer medications as directed by provider, including calculating drug dosage and reconstituting powdered medication or mixing medications from separate vials.
Evaluate and recommend equipment and supplies, and evaluate and compare medical supplies.
Instruct patient with special needs, and instruct and demonstrate routine procedures for monitoring body functions.
Instruct and demonstrate safety procedures for home medical equipment.
Demonstrate care and use of special equipment to patient, such as crutches, walker, cane, wheelchair, hearing aids, braces, splints, casts, slings, and prosthetic appliances.
Provide written and verbal instructions on chronic disease conditions as instructed by provider.
Teach patient methods of health promotion and disease prevention.
Provide verbal and written information about routine physical examinations and laboratory testing.
Provide verbal and written information as applicable to specialty and provider regarding nutrition and diet therapy, exercise and weight control, hygiene, sexually transmitted/communicable diseases and preventative measures, family planning, smoking cessation, and alcohol/drug prevention and treatment.
Instruct and assist patients with performance of self-breast examinations.
Refer patients to outside resources as instructed by provider.
Orient and train personnel, including introducing office staff, orienting to facility, assisting in completion of personnel documents, assigning work schedules, and making daily work assignments.
Demonstrate use of policy and procedure manuals for office and office equipment.
Provide information on CDC universal precautions, OSHA, CLIA, and American Disabilities Act regulations.
Provide information on emergency preparedness plan, TJC, ACHA, DCF as applicable.
