About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of a shift of mechanics and technicians engaged in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of district vehicles and equipment. The Shift Supervisor ensures that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards and procedures. This role involves overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, managing parts inventory, and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a fleet maintenance environment.
  • Valid Nevada Driver's License.
  • Current DMV report (no more than 6 months old).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicle systems (e.g., engine, transmission, brakes, electrical).
  • Knowledge of fleet management software and computerized maintenance systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • ASE certifications (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist, Master Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technician, etc.).
  • Experience with alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to commercial vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work of mechanics and technicians during a designated shift.
  • Coordinate and assign maintenance, repair, and servicing tasks for district vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical problems and provide technical guidance to staff.
  • Oversee the inspection of vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues and recommend preventive maintenance.
  • Manage the inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including labor hours and parts used.
  • Prepare shift reports and communicate operational status to management.
  • Assist in the training and development of subordinate staff.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to vehicle maintenance and disposal.
