About The Position

Manages and coordinates Body and Paint, Unit Repair, Mechanical and Automotive Repair work between the shop divisions, Transportation Department and the garages. Oversees materials management, implements quality standards, and sets quotas and priorities. Supervises assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years related experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsement P and air brakes required.
  • Knowledge of garage operations.
  • Knowledge of bus acquisition, maintenance, and retirement processes.
  • Knowledge of parts and material needs to perform repairs on Buses and non revenue vehicles.
  • Knowledge of materials used in fabrication projects for other departments.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards.
  • Knowledge of bus requirements.
  • Knowledge of MCTS operations and policies.
  • Knowledge of the General Labor Agreement.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and automotive repair equipment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office including Windows 365, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Ability to lead/supervise others.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read plans and diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fleet Maintenance Operations, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with and supervising employees under labor contracts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs Shop Supervisors in the scheduling of work and setting quotas and priorities for shop divisions; fills in for supervisor as needed.
  • Fills in for the Garage Manager as needed.
  • Handles warranty and defective part disputes concerning material and parts required for bus repair.
  • Directs the preparation of annual budget request for new equipment and monthly and annual maintenance department operation report and monthly mileage reports.
  • Implements maintenance procedures for quality of work performed by shop personnel and make determination to send work to outside vendors.
  • Coordinates the repair and prioritizes maintenance and timely availability of vehicles and equipment within the divisions and garages to meet the operational requirement.
  • Inspects defective units and determine causes of failure to take steps to prevent future failures.
  • Ensures quality performance of fleet personnel.
  • Processes employee complaints and grievances by conducting timely and thorough investigations.
  • Handles all first step grievances.
  • Performs other duties as required.
