About The Position

At the Department of Public Works, we are responsible for building and maintaining a sustainable provincial infrastructure for Nova Scotians. From highways and bridges to government buildings and registration of vehicles, safety and quality of life are top of mind. We support Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. Our Fleet Services Division is pivotal in ensuring the Public Works Fleet is running smoothly; ensuring the safety of our provincial road network. This position reports to the District Director, the Director, Fleet Management or their designates, and has authority for the day to day management of the District Fleet and District shop operations, in accordance with Fleet Management's policies, procedures, standards, fiscal objectives, budgets, technical direction, and maintenance procedures. The Fleet Service Coordinator (FSC) has a joint responsibility to the District Director and Director, Fleet Management for the marketing of fleet management and provision of quality mechanical services to users.

Requirements

  • High-school completion with an interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Truck and Transport Mechanics with five (5) years of related experience in a fleet management environment.
  • Well versed in various vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and daily access to a reliable motor vehicle is essential.
  • Good computer skills that will assist you in the management of budgets, creation of reports and recommendations, and navigation of related software programs and databases.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, collective agreements, and remain current with industry trends, acts, policies, and procedures.
  • Inspirational leadership abilities combined with excellent people and communication skills.
  • Keen eye and attention for detail and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on the situation is critical to your success.
  • Focused on promoting best practices and adjusting goals and objectives to improve both efficiency and effectiveness of fleet service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provides fleet management maintenance and repair services for a fleet of Public Works and other government departments and agencies vehicles and equipment.
  • Responsible for monitoring and controlling maintenance and repair costs, preventive maintenance programs, warranty repair program and effective repair scheduling, compiling and maintaining computerized financial and fleet management data.
  • Communicates regularly with the Director, Fleet Management regarding fleet management programs and activities, technical directions, identification and direction in the event of equipment loss or major repair, availability of replacement equipment and standardization of equipment.
