About The Position

The purpose of this position is to repair and maintain a diverse fleet of automobiles, trucks, and construction equipment. This includes diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining light to heavy vehicles and construction equipment. The role involves operating computer diagnostic software, scanners, meters, pneumatic and hand tools, and interpreting schematics and repair manuals. Responsibilities also include performing minor fabrication/welding, transporting vehicles, conducting North Carolina State safety and emission inspections, and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections on trucks and trailers. The technician will use the fleet management applet to record repair types, time, and notes into work orders. Additionally, the position requires maintaining shop equipment and tools, cleaning the shop facility, and disposing of hazardous materials according to regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina State Inspectors License within six (6) months of hire.
  • Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
  • Using mechanical repair tools
  • Reading diagrams and sketches for repair work
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Responsibilities
