About The Position

The Fleet Manager will lead all aspects of fleet operations for a multi-state internet service provider. This role is responsible for strategic planning, reporting, compliance, cost optimization, and operational excellence across a diverse fleet that includes light-duty vehicles for home installations and heavy equipment for ariel and underground construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred but not required.
  • Seven or more years fleet management experience, and two or more years in a supervisory role required.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle; valid California driver’s license and clean DMVR.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations that govern maintenance operations related to job site safety protocols and potential job hazards.
  • Experience in the administration of comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs.
  • Experience and knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
  • Experience and knowledge of inventory control processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with insurance requirements, insurance
  • Must be able to perform routine calculations and be able to write reports and correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient on Microsoft Office products. Specific experience using excel and power point, be able to work with data and present/analyze data.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage fleet budgets, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
  • Negotiate contracts with leasing companies, maintenance providers, and fuel suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain vehicle acquisition/retirement/replacement program; assist in the delivery of new vehicles; identify idle and salvage vehicles, and follow-up accordingly.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs on all company vehicles to keep the fleet at maximum operating efficiency and track all costs associated with maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure that all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and California Code of Regulations (CCR) for Class A and Class B driver licenses are adhered to.
  • Maintain current registrations, titles, motor carrier permits, inspections and licenses on all company vehicles.
  • Ensure all company vehicles have the appropriate decals to comply with state and local regulations, and Sonic corporate branding standards.
  • Partner with the Safety Manager and/or Human Resources to ensure that all Class A drivers are included in the U.S. Department of Transportation Random Drug Testing program and testing pool.
  • Prepare and manage annual/quarterly/monthly fleet capital and expense budgets.
  • Review all service estimates for acceptability to keep costs within budgeted guidelines.
  • Oversee Fleet Coordinator to ensure the Company vehicle database and fleet records are maintained; perform system audits to ensure vehicle regulation compliance.
  • Partner with Safety Manager to investigate all vehicles accidents; recommend corrective action to Human Resources.
  • Review all vehicle accident estimates for acceptability, to keep costs within budgeted guidelines.
  • Develop and present detailed fleet operational dashboards, outlining fleet utilization and operational metrics underscoring operational performance and/or efficiency.
