About The Position

Scrap Management Industries is seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to lead our maintenance operations and oversee a team of mechanics, welders, and tire technicians. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our fleet of commercial trucks and trailers remain safe, compliant, and operational. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of commercial trucking and DOT regulations, and the ability to effectively coordinate maintenance priorities in a fast-paced environment. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines shop supervision, fleet oversight, and mechanical troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a fleet or maintenance environment
  • Strong knowledge of commercial trucking systems, diesel engines, trailers, and DOT regulations
  • Experience working with Class 7 and 8 trucks
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite experience including Word and Excel
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake systems
  • Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic maintenance systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to workplace safety and preventative maintenance practices
  • Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

  • CDL preferred
  • ASE certifications preferred
  • Experience with welding or fabrication operations
  • Experience working with heavy equipment or mobile equipment
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
  • Technical school training or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of fleet maintenance experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of mechanics, welders, and tire technicians
  • Coordinate daily shop operations, repair schedules, and preventative maintenance programs
  • Ensure fleet equipment remains DOT-compliant and road-ready
  • Inspect, diagnose, and assist with repairs on diesel engines, trailers, brakes, suspension, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Monitor and enforce safety procedures, company policies, and maintenance standards
  • Conduct or oversee DOT inspections and maintain FMCSA compliance documentation
  • Prioritize equipment repairs to minimize downtime and support operational needs
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and repair logs
  • Communicate effectively with operations and dispatch regarding equipment availability and repair timelines
  • Assist with vendor coordination, parts ordering, and inventory management
  • Respond to occasional after-hours maintenance needs or emergency breakdowns
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
