About The Position

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for actively performing mechanical repairs while leading and coordinating a team of mechanics in daily work assignments. This role ensures all fleet equipment is properly maintained, repaired efficiently, and compliant with company standards and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic and/or Lead Mechanic.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass airport badge screening requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, push, pull, and carry.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience using diesel diagnostic software for troubleshooting heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily work assignments for mechanics.
  • Assign tasks based on individual skill sets and workload priorities.
  • Hire, train, and develop mechanics to meet operational demands.
  • Provide ongoing training in maintenance procedures and best practices.
  • Manage mechanic schedules, including adjustments for workload and snow/storm events.
  • Evaluate equipment conditions and identify necessary repairs.
  • Perform both basic maintenance and major repairs on heavy equipment, including Loaders, Dump trucks, and Sweepers.
  • Areas of repair include (but are not limited to): Engine systems, Electrical systems, Drive train, Suspension, Braking systems, Hydraulics.
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assist in developing and improving preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Generate and manage work orders in the company’s asset management system, including estimating parts and labor.
  • Prioritize work orders in coordination with the General Manager and Fleet leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with company maintenance management systems.
  • Review completed work orders and repairs for quality control.
  • Provide regular reports on repair activities and status.
  • Provide maintenance support during all snow events or emergency operations.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies and procedures.
