About The Position

As a Fleet Driver I at CarMax, you transport vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors, helping keep operations and inventory moving and supporting on-time deliveries. You use a company-provided truck or hauler and represent CarMax in interactions with vendors, store associates, and the public. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, accurate documentation, and careful handling of vehicles. Work includes loading, securing, transporting, and unloading vehicles, as well as outdoor work in varied weather conditions and hands-on physical tasks.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state-issued driver's license.
• Have a clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years and meet CarMax's Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Hold a valid state-issued Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Have 2 or more years of Class A CDL driving experience, or 2 or more years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax; non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable for the CarMax experience alternative.
• Meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, secure vehicles during transport, and perform repetitive pulling, torquing, and tensioning of chains, binders, and straps to meet load securement standards.
• Be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Be comfortable working outdoors, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills and work efficiently while using time wisely.

Nice To Haves

• Military heavy or medium tactical vehicle experience may be considered in place of the specified driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using a company hauler.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling and climbing ladders.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck.
• Keep equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Interact professionally with vendors, store associates, and the public in a manner that reflects CarMax values.
• Follow CarMax policies and safety standards.

Benefits

• Paid sick time, accrued per pay period, up to 48 hours per year for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Annual vacation time of 80 to 200 hours after a 90-day waiting period for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates, depending on years of continuous service.
• Eight hours of pay for each of six scheduled paid holidays per year, plus one floating holiday, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Holiday Premium Pay when an eligible associate works on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
