About The Position

As a Fleet Driver I, you transport vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors to support operations, inventory flow, and customer deliveries. You conduct vehicle and equipment inspections, maintain compliant DOT documentation, and safely load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles using a company-provided truck and hauler. The role involves hands-on freight handling, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. You are expected to keep equipment clean, maintained, and ready for use, deliver vehicles accurately and on time, and represent CarMax professionally when interacting with vendors, store associates, and the public. The position offers consistent schedules, competitive pay, and routes designed to get drivers home daily. The hourly rate is $21.50–$36.60.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Have a clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years and meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles; and perform repetitive pulling, torquing, and tensioning of chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load-securement standards.
• Be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Be comfortable working outdoors, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills and adhere to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Work efficiently and use time wisely.
• Hold a valid state-issued Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Have 2 or more years of Class A CDL driving experience, with military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered; alternatively, have 2 or more years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax, for which non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using the company hauler.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling and work on multi-level transport decks.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck.
• Keep equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Interact professionally with vendors, store associates, and the public, reflecting CarMax values.
• Follow CarMax policies and safety standards.

Benefits

• Up to 48 hours of sick time per year, accrued per pay period, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Between 80 and 200 hours of vacation time per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Eight hours of pay for each of six scheduled paid holidays per year, plus one floating holiday, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Holiday Premium Pay when an eligible associate works on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
• For full-time salaried associates, paid time away as needed for sick time, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
