About The Position
Astec is a global, environmentally focused infrastructure and manufacturing company serving asphalt road building and aggregate processing industries. The Fitter/Welder safely fits and welds metal parts to build asphalt plant equipment and related components. The role requires quality-conscious work, appropriate welding machine settings, inspection of metal before welding, and compliance with welding PPE and safety procedures. The position is based in a shop and warehouse environment and may also involve work in an asphalt plant environment. Overtime, including weekends, may be required as necessary.
Requirements
- Ability and experience to weld properly and safely using GMAW and FCAW.
- Ability to read and understand weld symbols on drawings.
- Ability to safely use cranes and forklifts.
- Must pass a welding skills test.
- Fit-up knowledge and ability.
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently fit and weld metal parts used to build asphalt plant equipment and related components.
- Weld using GMAW and FCAW processes.
- Inspect metal before welding for smoothness and acceptability, and produce welds requiring minimal post-grinding.
- Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for the work.
- Use required welding PPE, including a hood, appropriate filter shades, and arm and body protection.
- Follow safety rules and procedures.
