About The Position

Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa subsidiary, is hiring Fitter/Welders for its plant in Steele, Alabama. The role uses jigs and holding fixtures to lay out pieces for welding according to blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders. The Fitter/Welder uses manual, semi-automatic, or automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal or other weldable materials. Meyer Utility Structures designs and fabricates tubular steel structures for transmission, distribution, and substation applications. The position also involves repair welding, welding clips and hardware, performing full-penetration welds, operating grinding equipment, maintaining quality and efficiency, and following standard safety practices.

Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of experience.
Ability to perform multi-pass welds.
Ability to perform circumference (“C”) welds.
Ability to maintain a 90% pass rate on UT inspection.
Ability to maintain good attendance.

Nice To Haves

Flux Core experience preferred.
Ability to perform horizontal and vertical welds preferred.

Responsibilities

Repair welds.
Assist with completing tasks to meet deadlines.
Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches, using manual, automatic, and/or semi-automatic welding equipment.
Weld clips and hardware.
Perform full-penetration welds, such as slip-joint welds, to join ends to poles or channels.
Operate grinding equipment.
May lay out and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies.
May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
Maintain quality and efficiency.
Observe standard safety practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
