About The Position

Empowering Health, Safety, and Vitality The Fitness/Aquatic Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and age-appropriate land and aquatic wellness programs for residents within the retirement community. This position promotes healthy aging, mobility, strength, balance, social engagement, and overall wellbeing through group exercise classes, aquatic programming, and individualized fitness support. The instructor works closely with residents of varying fitness and mobility levels while creating a welcoming, encouraging, and resident-centered environment. Responsibilities include monitoring participant safety, adapting exercises to meet individual needs, maintaining equipment and wellness areas, and supporting the community’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and independence for older adults.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required
  • Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain once hired)
  • Certified Pool Operator (or willingness to obtain once hired)
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator (or willingness to obtain once hired)
  • One Year Aquatic and Group Instruction Experience
  • Knowledge of senior fitness principles, fall prevention, balance training, flexibility, strength training, and adaptive exercise techniques
  • Strong communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to safely demonstrate exercises and monitor participant safety throughout classes
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • associate’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Wellness, Recreation, or related field preferred
  • Current nationally recognized group fitness certification preferred (examples: ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, SilverSneakers®, AEA or equivalent)
  • Experience working with older adults, seniors, or in a healthcare/retirement community setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, schedule, lead, and actively promote wellness studio and aquatic activities tailored to the interests of residents.
  • Ensure the pool, whirlpool, and Fitness Center meet all PA State regulations and maintain optimal conditions.
  • Create new ideas for programs
  • Regularly assess facility equipment and communicate repair or replacement needs to leadership.
