About The Position

The Fiscal Policy Analyst will support the Budget Office, within the Office of the Director of Finance, by providing data analysis, research, and support on projects relating to the operating budget, capital budget, and grants management to advance the City’s financial planning and budgeting efforts. The Fiscal Policy Analyst will support a mix of recurring responsibilities, one-time projects, and evolving departmental priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Up to 1-3 years of relevant experience desired, such as within government or a related entity.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Office the Director of Finance and Human Resources also considered.
  • Highly motivated and interested in local government administration, process improvement, public finance and policy.
  • Interest in the fundamentals of budgeting, grants, and financial processes and ability to support financial analyses.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to achieve goals
  • Strong analytical, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, compile, and follow up on various data asks to units and departments across the City.
  • Analyze large datasets from a variety of sources.
  • Conduct basic to intermediate financial analysis, including identifying trends, reconciling discrepancies, and preparing summary findings for review.
  • Communicate results of analysis through written summaries, visualizations, and presentations.
  • Work with subject matter experts to draft communication resources such as memos, one-pagers, and training materials for an array of audiences.
  • Support senior leaders in the Budget Office and other parts of Finance with interdepartmental initiatives, working groups, committees, and other convenings.
  • Support process improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
