About The Position

The Fireman/Mechanic maintains, operates, and repairs Boiler Room equipment, including boilers, pumps, compressors, fans, heaters, turbines, and other related equipment. The role operates Boiler Room equipment safely, performs preventive maintenance, and keeps equipment logs. The employee maintains a clean and safe work area, may electronically enter data using handheld devices, and performs other job-related duties as assigned. This position has no supervisory responsibility. This is a full-time rotating-shift position scheduled Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The position is located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and requires on-site presence. Employees should live within commuting distance; NYP does not reimburse travel expenses.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fuel Oil Transfers in Building P-98, to be obtained within the probation period.
New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness to Operate and Maintain Air Compressors A-35.
At least three years of experience operating a high-pressure Boiler Room and maintaining equipment, or maintaining high-pressure steam equipment at NYP, or equivalent education consisting of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

Maintain, operate, and repair Boiler Room equipment.
Maintain and repair boilers, pumps, compressors, fans, heaters, turbines, and other related equipment as required.
Operate Boiler Room equipment safely.
Perform preventive maintenance and maintain logs for Boiler Room equipment.
Keep the work area clean and safe.
Electronically input data into handheld devices when required.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
