About The Position

The City of Albany is accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic. This is an entry-level position. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications including a High School diploma or GED, a valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT), and at least six months of experience working as a paramedic in a 911 transporting agency. Possession of a California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate is preferred, but completion of a Firefighter I Academy from an accredited California State Fire Training program may also be considered. The position requires possession of various licenses and certifications, including a California Paramedic License, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, PHTLS or ITLS, BLS for Healthcare Provider, and a valid California Driver's License with a DMV Firefighter Endorsement. Successful candidates must pass a department pre-employment screening process, which includes a psychological evaluation, medical examination, and a full background investigation. This role involves working nights, weekends, holidays, and various shift configurations, including 48-hour tours of duty, with the possibility of mandatory call back at any time.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possession of a Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) that is valid (within one year) at the time of application.
  • Current full-time firefighter/paramedic with at least six months of experience working as a paramedic in a 911 transporting agency is required at time of application.
  • Possession of a valid California Paramedic License.
  • Possession of a valid ACLS certification.
  • Possession of a valid PALS or PEPP certification.
  • Possession of a valid PHTLS or ITLS certification.
  • Possession of a valid BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a DMV Firefighter Endorsement.
  • Must be free of felony convictions.
  • Must successfully pass a department pre-employment screening process (psychological evaluation, medical examination, and full background investigation).

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate.
  • Certificate of completion from a Firefighter I Academy from an accredited California State Fire Training.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency medical calls and provide advanced life support.
  • Operate fire suppression equipment and perform firefighting duties.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections and public education programs.
  • Maintain emergency vehicles and equipment.
  • Participate in training and drills to maintain skills and knowledge.
