About The Position

ENTRY-LEVEL FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC OPENINGS ALL APPLICANTS MUST TAKE AND PASS THE FOLLOWING NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK TESTS: 1) FIRETEAM TEST; AND 2) FIREFIGHTER MILE PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST OR CANDIDATE PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST (CPAT); IN ADDITION TO COMPLETING A CITY OF PERRYSBURG APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. Candidates who have tested with NTN in the last year and still have valid scores, will need to apply their scores to our current posting to be considered. www.nationaltestingnetwork.com Applicants must be an Ohio Certified Paramedic. A copy of your EMT-P card must be included with your application or emailed to humanresources @perrysburgoh.gov (Please do not upload any documents that reveal or display your social security number.) Honorably discharged military veterans who submit a legible copy of their DD214 will be given an additional 5% of their passing score. DD214 documents may be uploaded with this application or emailed to [email protected]. Documents must be received no later than closing date. Application and testing deadline is July 15, 2026. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: A firefighter performs such duties as prescribed by the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Captain, Lieutenant or their designee. A firefighter responds to alarms or emergencies as directed by proper authority. He/she performs physical work for extended periods of time without rest and in inclement weather while working in a "team environment."

Requirements

  • Must take and pass the FIRETEAM TEST.
  • Must take and pass the FIREFIGHTER MILE PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST OR CANDIDATE PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST (CPAT).
  • Must complete a City of Perrysburg application.
  • Must be an Ohio Certified Paramedic.
  • A copy of your EMT-P card must be included with your application or emailed to [email protected].
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the City's vehicle insurance provider.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Firefighter II within one year of appointment.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of combating fire and the use and maintenance of related equipment.
  • Knowledge of advanced and basic life support methods.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the City of Perrysburg.
  • Knowledge of Divisional and City policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Incident Command and the use of the Incident Management System.
  • Skill in operation of all Division vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in care and use of power tools.
  • Skill in proper care and use of EMS equipment.
  • Skill in use of a personal computer to complete required reports and email.
  • Ability to operate effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • Ability to use tact in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other fire personnel and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to alarms or emergencies as directed by proper authority.
  • Perform physical work for extended periods of time without rest and in inclement weather while working in a "team environment."
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as but not limited to: turnout gear including helmet, hood, gloves, boots and SCBA.
  • Be capable of working at an elevated height.
  • Assist in routine maintenance of the station and equipment as directed.
  • Meet all job safety requirements and applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Remain informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties.
  • Assist with public events and public education programs.
  • Be responsible for maintaining their continuing education for both fire and EMS per State of Ohio and Division standards.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all reports and records created by them.
  • Enter in the station logbooks an accurate and complete account of all actions of the station apparatus and personnel affecting the interest of the Division as designated by the Fire Chief.
  • Forward all reports or communications of special or urgent importance to the next higher authority as soon as possible.
  • Notify the Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief or their designees of any unusual happening or circumstances, which may arise that are not covered by these rules or other authority.
