About The Position
This position involves performing firefighting and paramedic duties. The role requires responding to emergency calls, administering medical treatment, and engaging in firefighting activities. The individual will work under the supervision of a Fire Station Lieutenant and an EMS Lieutenant, operating emergency vehicles and interacting with the public in potentially stressful situations.
Requirements
- State of Tennessee National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certified Firefighter I, II or eligible for reciprocity in the State of Tennessee.
- Two (2) years of experience as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic or five (5) years with a volunteer Fire Service.
- Must be at least nineteen (19) years old by the starting date of the hiring class.
- Must not exceed forty (40) years old by the date of employment in this position.
- Currently licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Paramedic or eligible for reciprocity.
- Must obtain State of Tennessee Paramedic licensure prior to employment.
- Must maintain Paramedic licensure as required by state guidelines.
- Must pass a comprehensive medical examination.
- Must pass a physical ability test.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Tennessee Driver's License with Endorsement F.
Responsibilities
- Gather medical information from patients or bystanders.
- Administer medical treatment based on patient condition and protocols.
- Determine patient transport method based on medical situation.
- Communicate patient condition to hospital medical personnel.
- Load and unload patients from ambulances.
- Drive emergency ambulances safely to transport patients.
- Assist hospital personnel in emergency situations.
- Respond to alarms and radio messages.
- Search for victims in smoky areas and determine evacuation routes.
- Use specialized equipment like the jaws-of-life to access vehicles, equipment, or structures.
- Carry victims down ladders or stairs.
- Connect hoses and fight fires.
- Identify flammable or hazardous materials.
- Lift and maneuver ladders.
- Extinguish fires in low visibility and high heat conditions.
- Create openings in structures using tools like axes.
- Preserve evidence of arson.
- Maintain knowledge of firefighting procedures.
- Clean, inspect, and test equipment.
- Perform additional assigned functions.
