About The Position

The Fire Safety and Emergency Response Technician is a hands-on field role with two co-equal core duties: inspection, testing, maintenance, and commissioning support of fire and life-safety systems, and fire, hazardous-materials, and process-emergency response. The technician keeps fire protection systems in service and provides initial and offensive response capability for manufacturing hazards, including pyrophoric gas fires (silane), toxic gas leaks (PH3, AsH3), acid spills, wet-bench fires, and cleanroom/tool incidents. The role works directly with facilities, contractors, operations, and the authority having jurisdiction to protect people and processes in a high-hazard manufacturing environment. The position requires 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, plus on-call and extended hours as needed. The technician must be able to work in industrial and manufacturing environments, wear required personal protective equipment including SCBA and fully encapsulating suits, and pass medical and physical-ability evaluations. ITAR eligibility requirements apply.

Requirements

  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years installing, inspecting, testing, and/or servicing fire protection systems (sprinkler, fire alarm, and/or special suppression), or equivalent industrial emergency-response experience.
  • Ability to obtain ICS 100, 200, and 300 within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, plus on-call and extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in industrial or manufacturing environments, wear required PPE including SCBA and fully encapsulating suits, and pass medical and physical-ability evaluations.
  • Must meet the stated ITAR eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in semiconductor, solar-cell, or high-hazard process manufacturing emergency response.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards such as NFPA 13, 25, and 72, and basic building and fire code requirements.
  • Firefighter I/II certification (IFSAC, ProBoard, or equivalent).
  • Hazardous Materials Technician certification (NFPA 472/1072 or OSHA 1910.120 equivalent).
  • NICET certification in Inspection and Testing, Water-Based Systems, Fire Alarm, or Special Hazards.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial suppression systems, including preaction, clean agent, foam, and dry chemical.
  • Confined-space rescue training.
  • Knowledge of pyrophoric gas fire tactics, toxic-gas response, and cleanroom operations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • Additional certifications such as confined-space rescue, EMT, OSHA 10/30, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire and life-safety systems, including sprinklers, suppression, alarms, detection, extinguishers, gas detection, SCBA, and related equipment; complete scheduled work with little or no guidance, close out deficiencies, and support regulatory or insurance inspections.
  • Support installation, upgrades, and commissioning of fire protection systems through walkdowns, device checkout, punch lists, functional tests, and turnover.
  • Verify that installed systems remain operational and that impairments are logged, mitigated, and restored.
  • Work with facilities teams, fire contractors, and the authority having jurisdiction on inspections, permits, impairments, and certifications.
  • Read drawings, submittals, and test reports to follow field work and identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain inspection, test, and corrective-action records for audits and authority-having-jurisdiction visits.
  • Respond to impairments, leaks, trouble signals, and after-hours issues as required by the site.
  • Fill operational roles during incidents, including HAZMAT technician-level support and technical rescue; perform size-up, specialized gas monitoring, scene control, isolation support, defensive and offensive tactics, foam and dry-chemical application, spill containment, decontamination, and two-in/two-out operations.
  • Operate in structural firefighting PPE with SCBA and Level A/B hazmat suits; maintain accountability, communications, and incident documentation, and participate in the ICS structure.
  • Create and review basic pre-incident plans and job hazard analyses, including HAZMAT scenarios; support emergency action plans, drills, and mutual-aid coordination.
  • Deliver training to production, operations, and maintenance personnel; participate in live-fire, gas-release, and joint exercises; and train new technicians on basic ITM and response tasks as experience grows.
  • Perform hot-work watches, confined-space standby, permit support, and other EHS readiness tasks; manage assigned apparatus, equipment, HAZMAT resources, and consumable inventory.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, facilities, and EHS leadership to ensure fire-safety and emergency-response requirements are met and built into company processes.
