About The Position

Vanderweil Engineers is hiring a Fire Protection Engineer for its Atlanta, Georgia office. The position works on high-profile mission-critical, academic, healthcare, commercial, life sciences, and technology projects as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. The role involves designing fire protection and fire alarm systems, coordinating project work, surveying existing sites, reviewing project documentation, and mentoring junior engineering staff. The schedule is hybrid, with up to two remote workdays per week and local project-site travel.

Requirements

10 or more years of experience designing fire protection and fire alarm systems.
Ability to create and modify technical drawings.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection Engineering.
Knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD.
Travel to local project sites.

Nice To Haves

EIT or PE licensure.
LEED credential.

Responsibilities

Design fire suppression and fire alarm systems for academic, commercial, healthcare, life sciences, and mission-critical projects.
Design and lay out automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, high-rise fire pumps, gaseous-agent suppression, fire alarms, voice evacuation, mass notification, special-technology fire detection, and smoke control.
Coordinate with the design team and lead related portions of construction planning.
Prepare field reports, respond to RFIs, and review fire protection/fire alarm shop drawings and submittals.
Design and lay out systems and create drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, and HydraCALC.
Survey existing project sites to document conditions and assess existing fire protection/fire alarm infrastructure.
Lead and mentor junior engineering staff.
