About The Position

Under general supervision, installs, inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems and related equipment; performs related work as required. This position is responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and compliance of fire alarm systems throughout the district. The role involves a combination of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks to guarantee the safety and security of students and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the installation, inspection, testing, and repair of fire alarm systems.
  • Valid Nevada driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm system components, operation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant fire codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 72).
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and testing equipment for fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET certification (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Experience with specific fire alarm system manufacturers (e.g., Simplex, Notifier, Edwards).
  • Additional certifications related to electrical or low-voltage systems.
  • Experience working in a school district or similar large organization.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems and related equipment.
  • Performs routine inspections and testing of fire alarm panels, detectors, pull stations, and notification devices.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in fire alarm systems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Replaces faulty components and ensures systems are functioning according to manufacturer specifications and relevant codes.
  • Maintains accurate records of all inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs performed.
  • Responds to fire alarm activations and system trouble calls in a timely manner.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable fire codes, building codes, and district policies.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance staff and external contractors as needed.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and testing equipment.
  • May be required to work on other electrical systems and equipment as directed.
