About The Position

Under general supervision, installs, inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems and related equipment; performs related work as required. This position is responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of fire alarm systems throughout the district. The role involves working with various types of fire alarm panels, detectors, pull stations, notification devices, and associated wiring and components. The technician will also be responsible for documenting all inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License.
  • NICET Level II Certification in Fire Alarm Systems (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment).
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools common to the trade.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specific fire alarm system manufacturers (e.g., Simplex, Notifier, Edwards).
  • Experience working in a K-12 educational environment.
  • Additional relevant certifications (e.g., state fire alarm license, specific manufacturer certifications).

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems and related equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems according to manufacturer recommendations and district policies.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in fire alarm systems and initiates corrective actions.
  • Responds to fire alarm activations and system troubles to identify and resolve issues.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Documents all inspection, testing, and maintenance activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and district procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, local fire codes).
  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies and requisitions replacements as needed.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance staff, school personnel, and external agencies as required.
  • Attends training sessions and workshops to stay current with fire alarm technology and safety regulations.
