About The Position

This position is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of the District's fire alarm systems and related components. The Fire Alarm Technician will ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations, and maintain accurate records of all activities. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and facilities within the district.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems.
  • Valid Nevada State Fire Marshal certification as a Fire Alarm Technician.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex system issues.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic software.
  • Valid Nevada Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specific fire alarm system brands (e.g., Simplex, Notifier, Edwards).
  • NICET certification (Level II or higher) in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Additional certifications related to fire protection or electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems, including control panels, initiating devices (smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations), notification appliances (horns, strobes), and associated wiring.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems according to manufacturer recommendations and district standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in fire alarm systems and implement corrective actions.
  • Install new fire alarm systems or components as required.
  • Ensure all work performed complies with applicable codes, standards (e.g., NFPA 72), and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, tests, maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Respond to fire alarm system activations and emergencies as needed.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff, school personnel, and external agencies as necessary.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment used for fire alarm system maintenance and repair.
  • Stay current with advancements in fire alarm technology and relevant codes and standards.
