About The Position

This position is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of the District's fire alarm systems and related equipment. The Fire Alarm Technician will ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations, and maintain accurate records of all activities. This role involves working independently and as part of the Maintenance Department team to ensure the safety and security of District facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems.
  • Valid Nevada State Fire Marshal certification as a Fire Alarm Technician.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic software.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in various environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specific fire alarm system brands used in the District (e.g., Simplex, Notifier).
  • Additional certifications related to fire protection systems.
  • Experience working in a school district or similar public sector environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, pull stations, horns, strobes, and associated wiring.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems according to manufacturer recommendations and District standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in fire alarm systems and implement necessary repairs.
  • Install new fire alarm systems and components as required.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards (e.g., NFPA 72), and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, tests, maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Respond to fire alarm system emergencies and provide prompt service.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in fire alarm system maintenance.
  • Stay current with advancements in fire alarm technology and relevant codes and standards.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
