About The Position
Chris-Craft is seeking a Fiberglass Finisher to help create high-quality finishes on luxury boats. The position focuses on preparing, repairing, sanding, grinding, cleaning, and polishing gel surfaces to meet quality standards. The finisher follows work instructions and drawings, learns to use finishing tools and equipment, and develops skills in gel coat repairs, spraying, and fairing. The role also involves cross-training in other areas and finish-work styles.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred; a technical certification in a relevant area is helpful.
- Previous experience with gel coat or paint repairs preferred.
- Experience working with fiberglass or in auto body repair is helpful.
- Familiarity with mixing gel coats or paint with activators.
- Good working knowledge of repair tools such as sanders, buffers, and spray equipment.
- Deadline- and detail-oriented, with the ability to stay on task.
- Good attention to detail.
- Able to work both with a team and independently.
- Good attendance.
- Excellent vision.
Nice To Haves
- Technical training or certification.
- Previous experience with gel coat or paint repairs.
- Experience working with fiberglass or in auto body repair.
Responsibilities
- Grind, sand, clean, and polish gel surfaces to correct defects and meet quality standards.
- Follow work instructions and drawings for assigned tasks.
- Learn to use appropriate tools, including DA sanders, buffers, blocks, and Preval sprayers.
- Sand and buff efficiently without burning through the surface.
- Identify gel defects such as cracks, thin gel, and pre-release, and prepare parts for finishing.
- Learn to mix gel coat, resins, and milled fiber for repairs.
- Learn to spot-spray gel coat with a spray gun.
- Learn to fair in parts.
- Repair gel coat surface defects, including scratches, voids, surface distortion, fish eyes, and halos, using appropriate tools.
- Develop knowledge of Czone, Mercury, Volvo Vodia, Lumishore, Garmin, and other systems.
- Cross-train and learn new areas and finish-work styles.
