About The Position

This is a new position for the Fall 2026 academic period, specifically for the PED 4188 S100 course titled 'Teaching Instrumental Music at the Senior Division'. This course is part of the Teacher Education program within the Faculty of Education. The course description focuses on the introduction to teaching instrumental music at the intermediate and senior divisions, covering the impact of the discipline on the learner, individualized instruction, theoretical frameworks, curriculum guidelines, program development, teaching strategies, and evaluation techniques. The course is delivered in a HYBRID format, consisting of ten in-person sessions on campus (30 instructional hours) and two online modules through Brightspace (6 instructional hours).

Requirements

  • Masters degree in education required; PhD degree in Education will be given preference.
  • Qualification to teach in Ontario schools (OCT certification) at the Intermediate/Senior levels and/or research-based work focused on the subject of the course.
  • Recent experience in teaching in a school or working in administration of a school board at the Intermediate-Senior level, with specialist qualification in Instrumental Music.
  • Knowledge of the current Ontario Curriculum and of the Ethical Standards and Standards of Practice of the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Competence in a second language is passive.
  • Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
