About The Position

Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center (HVMHC) is seeking a Financial Services Specialist responsible for coordinating insurance verification, financial clearance and public program enrollment with Clients, Support Staff and Finance Department. The Financial Services Specialist will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, supporting access to services through insurance and billing management, state and federal program assistance, financial counseling and system navigation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work successfully independently and as part of each consumer’s multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including age, gender, ethnicity, and cultural components of all HVMHC consumers.
  • Skilled in planning, problem solving and decision-making.
  • Must be highly organized and creative with an ability to locate resources for clients as needed.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Complete all required job training as directed.
  • Must possess a vehicle valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel as needed to client or organization locations throughout SE MN.
  • Must be able to move in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities.
  • The employee must communicate with others and exchange information.
  • The employee regularly operates equipment (listed below) on a daily basis.
  • Occasional bending and lifting of office materials may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and ongoing insurance verification
  • Provide Good Faith Estimates
  • Explain insurance coverage, payment responsibilities, and sliding fee scales
  • Answer client questions related to insurance and billing
  • Discuss, create, implement and monitor client payment plans
  • Update insurance and demographic changes in system
  • Support Prior Authorizations
  • Assist clients with insurance enrollment and navigation
  • Discuss, create, implement and monitor client payment plans
  • Assist clients/families with ad-hoc financial issues as needed prior to, during and following treatment
  • Insurance renewal tracking
  • Assist Finance Dept with self pay collection and payment plans
  • Assist with accepting payments
  • Assist Finance Dept with posting of self pay payments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Finance Director
