About The Position

St. Joseph Center is seeking an experienced Financial & Grants Analyst to support the financial management of our programs, grants, and contracts while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and organizational planning. This role partners across Finance, Programs, Development, Compliance, and other teams to help ensure funding is accurately budgeted, appropriately used, properly reported, and incorporated into financial decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the ideal candidate combines strong financial and analytical skills with experience managing grants or government-funded programs and can translate financial information into practical insights for leaders across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit finance, financial analysis, grants accounting, contract finance, accounting, or related work.
  • Experience with budgets, financial reporting, reconciliations, variance analysis, grants, government contracts, restricted funding, or program-based budgets.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to colleagues and leaders outside of Finance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, human-services, housing, healthcare, behavioral health, or another government-funded environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with city, county, state, or federal grants and contracts; reimbursement-based funding; nonprofit accounting; Uniform Guidance; or financial and grants-management systems is also helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor budgets, spending, revenue, receivables, and projections across an assigned portfolio of grants, contracts, and restricted funding.
  • Review funding requirements and support invoicing, reimbursement requests, fiscal reporting, reconciliations, and grant closeouts.
  • Identify potential over- or underspending, funding concerns, and upcoming reporting or renewal requirements.
  • Support program, department, grant, and organizational budgeting, forecasting, and financial projections.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and analyze variances, financial trends, staffing costs, funding utilization, and other key drivers.
  • Provide financial analysis and scenario modeling to support planning and informed decision-making.
  • Serve as a Finance partner to assigned programs and departments, helping leaders understand budgets, funding restrictions, and financial performance.
  • Participate in financial reviews and provide clear guidance on spending trends, variances, and emerging risks.
  • Support financial planning for new programs, contract renewals, funding changes, and other business needs.
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure grants and contracts are accurately reflected in financial records.
  • Prepare or support journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, reconciliations, and grant-related accounting activities.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies across financial, payroll, grant, and program data.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready fiscal documentation.
  • Support financial audits, Single Audits, funder monitoring, and other fiscal reviews.
  • Monitor compliance with funding requirements and financial policies and escalate significant risks or potential compliance concerns.
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and summaries for Finance and program leadership.
  • Develop and maintain standardized tools, trackers, and documentation that strengthen financial and grant management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve forecasting, reimbursement, reporting, and integration of financial and program data.
