About The Position

Spring Fertility’s Financial Counselors assist patients with treatment estimates and work with external parties to help confirm financial coverage. The counselor works independently to explain financial information, determine insurance coverage, and educate patients about their financial options and responsibilities. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, exempt onsite position. The role requires flexible availability, which may include some weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
At least 2 years of experience in fertility or healthcare.
Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience with electronic medical records.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
Ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms to patients.
Flexible availability, which may include working some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

Provide patients and healthcare providers with estimates for upcoming treatment.
Collect estimated patient liabilities and apply payments to patient accounts.
Understand patients’ insurance coverage and benefit limits and communicate their financial responsibilities.
Clearly communicate patients’ financial status to internal staff by reviewing accounts receivable and working to resolve related issues.
Initiate prior authorization requests according to insurance carrier requirements.
Ensure reimbursement for medical services provided to uninsured and underinsured patients.
Identify and minimize potential financial risks in patient accounts using daily time-of-service reports.
Serve as a resource when questions arise about registration errors, insurance documentation, and accounting corrections.
