About The Position

The Financial Services department ensures that all accounting functions for our association are completed accurately and in a timely manner. This role will oversee and manage all financial operations of the association, including but not limited to financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and analysis to support strategic decision making across the organization. The Financial Controller will support the Chief Financial Officer in short and long-term planning, ad hoc reporting, Board package preparation, cash and investment management and will also be the finance ambassador to the rest of the association.

Requirements

  • Excellent accounting analysis and operations skills (generally acquired with 10+ years of Accounting/Finance experience)
  • 5+ years of experience leading a team
  • Experience working in a complex organization
  • Strong technology skills and experience with software implementations
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 (with advanced Excel skills) and SharePoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to build relationships with internal staff, leadership and external parties
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
  • Strong critical thinking and sound judgement with a problem-solving mindset
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CA, CGA) and a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting or Finance
  • Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including: AODA Training, Health & Safety Awareness Training, Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training, PCI Compliance, WHMIS, Child Safeguarding Orientation, Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED certification
  • Willingness to be able to work flexible hours based on client needs

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and Y Canada
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka
  • Effectively manage the Financial Services team
  • Review and update finance processes and documentation
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and uphold financial controls
  • Assume ownership of and manage the full accounting cycle for the association
  • Coordinate, plan and manage the annual budget process with the Chief Financial Officer
  • Coordinate and prepare year-end working papers and financial statements
  • Manage relationships with the external auditors and take the lead role in the annual financial and program audits
  • Manage banking and vendor relationships
  • Develop and in-depth understanding of the financial systems to fully leverage their capabilities
  • Prepare and submit all YMCA and regulatory reporting/filings (including GST/HST returns, T3010 annual charity return etc)
  • Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal legislation relevant to the role
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer and Leadership Team by preparing the monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages and providing ad hoc reporting as required
  • Represent the Financial Services department in cross-departmental initiatives and act as a trusted partner within the organization
