About The Position

The Financial Aid Counselor position is critical to supporting a predominantly international student population and administering both federal and institutional aid programs (IWORK, Hukilau, DPS, Title IV). The role manages complex financial reviews, ensures compliance, supports visa-related financial certification, and provides counseling to domestic and international students.

Requirements

  • BS in Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • One to two years of applicable experience; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes is required.
  • Proficiency in internet applications and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Financial Aid experience or knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Experience with student information and financial aid systems is preferred, including PeopleSoft and Workday.

Responsibilities

  • Administer financial aid programs for domestic (Title IV, state, institutional) and international students (institutional and external funding).
  • Evaluate financial need and determine eligibility through document review (income verification, bank statements, sponsor support).
  • Calculate family contribution (FC), package and disburse aid, and reconcile student accounts.
  • Oversee institutional programs (IWORK, Hukilau), including monitoring awards, payback rates, and eligibility.
  • Ensure compliance with federal (Title IV) and institutional policies; maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Support required reporting through Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System and National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), IPEDS System, Clearinghouse System, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records in PeopleSoft and Workday.
  • Assist with system operations, reporting, and process improvements.
  • Advise domestic students on federal and state aid (FAFSA, loans, grants) and international students on institutional programs (IWORK, Hukilau, DPS, Scholarships).
  • Explain financial aid eligibility, application processes, and program requirements.
  • Provide guidance on financial obligations, including visa and enrollment-related requirements.
  • Respond to student inquiries and resolve financial aid and account issues.
  • Support informed financial decision-making.
  • Mentor students on program terms and conditions, including work-study expectations, FC, and payback requirements.
  • Educate students on budgeting, debt management, and financial planning.
  • Support student success through ongoing guidance and accountability within program expectations.
  • Promote financial literacy for long-term financial well-being.
