About The Position

To advise students and/or parents on financial aid options and to administer specific financial aid programs. This role involves counseling students, parents, University departments, and outside agencies on the federal, state, and Institutional financial aid application process. The counselor will conduct presentations to clarify regulations, evaluate and determine appropriate action for financial aid applications, and determine, award, recalculate, and adjust aid packages. The position also oversees various financial aid programs and may involve supervising students or providing functional guidance to support staff, as well as serving on university committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • three months experience in student financial aid, customer service, or a relevant field
  • Knowledge of Personal computer applications
  • Skill in Written, verbal and interpersonal communication
  • Skill in Providing excellent customer service while complying with confidentiality laws and university policies
  • Skill in Organization and time management
  • Skill in Attention to detail
  • Skill in Utilizing computer applications, i.e., Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of Banner INB system
  • Skill in utilizing Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of general financial aid guidelines regarding loans, scholarships, grants, and federal work-study

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students, parents, University departments, and outside agencies on the federal, state, and Institutional financial aid application process.
  • Conduct presentations to clarify federal, state, and University regulations regarding the financial aid process.
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate action for invalid or incomplete student financial aid applications.
  • Determine award packages; award aid; recalculate and adjust aid; delete federal, state, and/or Institutional aid.
  • Oversee various financial aid programs (e.g. direct loans, minority benefits, scholarship coordination, grant processing, University scholarships, special circumstances, federal work study, etc.).
  • May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.
  • Serve on university committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
