About The Position

This Finance & Accounting Professional position supports Accounts Payable within the Financial Operations Division of BSD and reports to the Manager, Payable Services. This is an entry-level professional opportunity designed to develop knowledge and experience in Accounts Payable operations, financial systems, data analysis, internal controls and business processes. This position will work closely with the Senior Accounts Payable Professional and Accounts Payable (AP) Administrators to research transactions, analyze financial data, resolve routine issues, and support the effective operation of Accounts Payable. Through this work, the individual will develop subject matter expertise in Accounts Payable transactions, systems, policies, procedures and data while building the technical and professional skills needed for continued growth in Finance and Accounting.

Requirements

  • BS/BA or higher in accounting, finance or a business related field
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting and financial concepts gained through education or experience.
  • Experience using Excel functions and tools such as formulas, PivotTables, lookups, filtering, sorting and other data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new financial systems, processes, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support AP Administrators by researching and helping resolve transactional, accounting, system, and process-related questions and issues.
  • Research and analyze AP transactions and financial data to identify discrepancies and assist with determining appropriate resolution.
  • Use Excel and other analytical tools to organize, review, reconcile, and analyze financial and transactional data.
  • Perform routine reconciliations and analyses to support the accuracy and completeness of Accounts Payable liabilities on the general ledger.
  • Learn and apply Accounts Payable policies, procedures, financial controls, and system functionality to support effective and compliant operations.
  • Assist with researching transactional exceptions and work collaboratively with the Senior AP Professional, AP administrators, and other business partners to resolve issues.
  • Support AP reporting, metrics, data analysis, reconciliations, accruals, and month end and year end activities.
  • Review transactional data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support internal control and compliance activities, including gathering documentation, reviewing data, and assist with control testing (A-123).
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by researching transactions and gathering supporting documentation.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, desk guides, training materials, and other Accounts Payable documentation.
  • Assist with financial system testing, process changes, enhancements, and other Accounts Payable initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable team members and internal business partners (Cross Functional Financial Operations teams, Acquisition, Receiving team) to exchange information, research questions, and resolve routine issues.
  • Develop solutions to routine problems using established procedures and standard practices and escalate more complex matters as appropriate.
  • Work under the guidance of the Manager, Payable Services and experienced team members while developing technical knowledge, analytical skills, and professional judgment.
