On-Call Staff Archaeologist | Field Technician | Utah

About The Position
Chronicle Heritage is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians to support project work out of our Las Vegas and Reno offices, specifically in Nevada, Utah, and Idaho. The role will assist the Field Director and Project Team in completing archaeological pedestrian surveys, monitoring, testing. site delineation and recording throughout the West. Preference will be given to local candidates. Per diem will be provided for out-of-town stays. Lodging will either be camping or hotel, depending on their location.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
- Successful completion of an archaeology field school or have demonstrated equivalent experience
- 4 months or more of experience conducting survey fieldwork
- Frequent out-of-town travel, potentially for extended periods of time
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to frequently travel/drive a vehicle (sight, hearing, and manual manipulation of driving mechanisms)
- Cognitive ability to plan travel, use maps or GPS navigation systems
- Ability to organize one’s own work or that of crew members
- Ability to recognize and observe scientific data and analyze data as well as ability to perform calculations
- Ability to observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately
- Ability to operate a computer and perform keyboard entry of data or document preparation
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (phone, copy machine, etc.)
Nice To Haves
- Experience performing pedestrian surveys, excavating/recording shovel test units, and recording archaeological sites
- Knowledge of Western US material culture
- Experience with car camping and backpacking
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment
- Previous experience with mapping equipment and other special application equipment (GPS, tablets, etc.)
- Strong communication and organization skills
