About The Position

The Field Surveyor is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders by providing precise field measurements, construction layout, and quality verification essential for roadway and bridge construction. This role ensures accurate topographic data, alignment control, and progress monitoring to support construction crews, subcontractors, and project engineers.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Minimum of 5+ years of field surveying experience
  • Knowledge of machine control models
  • Knowledge of construction staking
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar survey processing software
  • Strong understanding of geodetic control, coordinate systems, and transformations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, roadway alignments, and bridge layout drawings.
  • Proficiency with Trimble systems (R750, TSC7), GNSS workflows, and robotic total stations.
  • Ability to work safely in active construction zones and rugged outdoor environments.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with construction crews, subcontractors, and engineers.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily survey tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing field conditions and project priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Roadway, bridge, or heavy civil construction project experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct topographic, boundary, and construction surveys for roadway alignments, bridge foundations, slopes, elevations, and cross-sections.
  • Operate GNSS receivers, total stations, levels, and drones to collect accurate field data.
  • Perform construction layout and stakeout for earthwork, structures, utilities, and roadway features.
  • Monitor construction progress and verify compliance with plans, specifications, and right-of-way limits.
  • Perform QA/QC checks on survey data, resolve discrepancies in real time, and maintain survey control networks.
  • Process survey data using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.
  • Prepare as-built surveys, volume calculations, and digital deliverables (CSV, DXF, LandXML).
  • Supervise and train junior survey crew members (2–4 personnel).
  • Support machine guidance operations for dozers, excavators, and grading equipment.
  • Maintain daily field notes, logs, and reports for engineers and project stakeholders.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
