About The Position

KLS Earthworks & Environmental is hiring an experienced Field Surveyor to work full-time in Calgary. The Field Surveyor is responsible for providing crews with survey support and ensuring accuracy in project execution. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of field surveying experience in civil construction, earthworks, or environmental projects.
  • Experience working with Topcon Total Stations (including Robotic Total Station) and advanced GNSS receivers.
  • Proficient with 3D-MC2 and machine control systems.
  • Experience with GNSS dozer calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong data collection and management skills using survey software and data controllers.
  • Proven experience working in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to effectively communicate hazards, layouts, and plans to site teams.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Canadian Civil and Commercial UAV License considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conventional and GPS surveys using a variety of survey equipment, including Topcon Total Stations (including Robotic Total Stations), Commercial UAV and advanced GNSS receivers.
  • Conduct topographic, construction layout, as-built, and volumetric surveys.
  • Complete machine control support, including GNSS dozer calibration, troubleshooting, and data transfer.
  • Collect and manage accurate survey data, ensuring quality control and accuracy in all field measurements.
  • Provide stakeout and layout services for grading, excavation, and underground utilities installations.
  • Reporting to the Survey Manager and working closely with project managers, foremen, equipment operators, and other site personnel to ensure layout work aligns with project requirements and design plans.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and records, and assist in preparing survey reports.
  • Adhere to KLS safety policies and actively participate in site safety meetings and hazard assessments.
  • Work safely in all weather conditions and terrains, ensuring effective communication with the site team to maintain a safe work environment.
