About The Position

Ahern is seeking a Field Steamfitter Pre-Apprentice for an entry-level union position in the Menomonie/Eau Claire, WI area. This role offers a pathway to a 5-year apprenticeship, where you will be trained to become a steamfitter journeyman. The apprenticeship is typically four to five years long. Ahern, a family-owned business with over 145 years of experience, is a leading mechanical and fire protection contractor known for quality, innovation, job stability, and support. Pre-apprentices will work alongside experienced steamfitter journeymen, gaining hands-on knowledge in installing, repairing, and maintaining pipe systems for various industrial and comfort applications. Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Clean driving record to operate company vehicles
  • Pass an appropriate aptitude test
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Self-motivated
  • Possess a strong mechanical background
  • Positive working and learning attitude
  • Able to work effectively in both fast-paced construction environments, both indoors and outdoors
  • Dependability
  • Able to work well as a member of the construction team

Nice To Haves

  • Prior construction experience
  • Welding skills
  • Brazing skills

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced steamfitter journeymen to gain hands-on steamfitting knowledge.
  • Install, repair, and maintain pipe systems that carry water, steam, compressed air, liquids, and gases required for processing, manufacturing, heating, and cooling.
  • Show attention to detail while installing hangers, material handling, and maintaining jobsite organization.
