About The Position

The Field Service Technician supports Plug Power fuel cell products installed in electric lift trucks by performing preventive maintenance, resolving breakdowns, and installing and servicing fuel cells at a specific customer location. The role includes reporting breakdown events, ordering parts, and maintaining fuel cells. It involves frequent exposure to customer personnel and lift truck operators and requires strong technical, communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.

The technician may provide on-call and emergency customer support, purchase tools, equipment, and parts, and troubleshoot systems involving high-pressure hydrogen storage, 480VAC, flammable materials, cryogenic liquids, high-pressure gas, and fueling systems. The position also requires field and customer-site safety practices, administrative documentation, communication with customers and hydrogen suppliers, and business-related travel. The technician provides their own standard tool set; Plug Power supplies specific fuel cell tools.

Requirements

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with technical electrical coursework.
• Three or more years of direct experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting; formal training and education may also be considered in lieu of direct experience.
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis without assistance.
• General mechanical aptitude.
• Computer and software skills applicable to the position, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Dynamic interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and service fuel cells at customer sites.
• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to maintain the fleet at a specific location.
• Perform specialized service procedures, including field retrofits and software and hardware upgrades to existing fuel cells.
• Provide on-call and emergency support service to customers as required.
• Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for customer service and support as required.
• Troubleshoot and maintain high-pressure hydrogen storage, 480VAC, flammability, cryogenic liquid, high-pressure gas, and fueling systems as needed.
• Maintain ongoing communication with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers regarding aftermarket fuel cell support as applicable.
• Provide regular feedback to regional service representatives regarding fuel cell performance and field maintenance issues.
• Complete administrative duties and documentation, including incident reports, service logs, inventory maintenance, and site and system documentation.
• Exhibit and enforce safety procedures in the field and at customer sites.
• Travel as required for business needs, drive safely, and adhere to traffic laws.
• Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
