About The Position

The Field Service Meter Reading Rep (Union Labor Grade 5) is responsible for performing tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the Authority’s water distribution system. This role involves direct customer interaction, meter reading, data entry, and basic field service duties. The position requires adherence to the company's STARS values: Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect, and Safety.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Strong communication skills to work with customers.
  • Must be able to interpret basic drawings/service sketches.
  • Ability to pass a physical demand screening.
  • Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary.
  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications (i.e. iPads, hand-held computers, mobile phones, GIS, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift up to 55lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service and customer support during field visits.
  • Read water consumption meters and enter data in hand-held computers.
  • Upload read data from hand-held computers if required.
  • Inspect, investigate reading devices and repair/replace them if required.
  • Verifies reads and meter resolution (number of dials).
  • Assist as a helper on 2-man Field Service jobs.
  • Perform simple installs, removal and changes of small meters (5/8 – 1”).
  • Turn-On and Turn-Off curb valves (Collections, repairs, emergencies, vacant, etc.).
  • Complete customer requested waste inspections.
  • Hand deliver notices/letters.
  • Report maintenance or equipment problems to appropriate Field Service personnel.
  • Perform Meter Reading and Field Service related duties as assigned.
  • Operate vehicle in a safely manner and use field automation systems, tools and equipment.
