About The Position

The Field Safety Coordinator supports the company's commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment across utility construction operations. This position works closely with field crews, supervisors, and management to promote safe work practices, conduct jobsite observations, assist with employee training, and help ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards. This role supports a variety of utility construction activities, including electrical transmission and distribution linework, communications construction, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), underground utility installation, excavation, and compliance with 811 safe digging requirements. Previous safety experience is not required. The company is willing to train the right individual who has utility construction experience, a strong work ethic, and an interest in developing a career in safety and leadership. This position is well-suited for a recent line school graduate, groundman, apprentice, communications technician, or other utility construction professional looking for a long-term career opportunity.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Lineworker/Lineman Training Program or experience in utility construction, power line construction, communications construction, HDD operations, underground utility work, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of construction equipment, jobsite hazards, and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn company safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent line school graduate.
  • Experience as a groundman, apprentice lineworker, locator, communications technician, HDD crew member, or similar field position.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or other safety-related training.
  • Experience working in a utility or construction environment.
  • Interest in employee development, leadership, and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine jobsite visits and field observations.
  • Assist crews and supervisors in identifying hazards and promoting safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee training activities.
  • Observe electrical, communications, HDD, excavation, and underground utility construction activities.
  • Support compliance with 811 requirements and safe excavation practices.
  • Assist with incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Help maintain safety records, training documentation, and inspection reports.
  • Assist with new employee safety orientations and onboarding.
  • Build positive working relationships with field employees and supervisors.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support field operations
