About The Position

Spectrum Resource Group (SRG), a business unit of Wright Canada Holdings, is an integrated vegetation management (IVM) solutions provider with expertise in vegetation management, forest management, and reforestation. We provide these services to federal, provincial, regional, local and Indigenous governments, to the forestry, energy, mines, petroleum, transportation and utility sectors, and to numerous regional invasive species organizations across Canada. This position is well-suited for a summer student eager to gain hands-on experience in reforestation, field safety, compliance, and related outdoor work.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively to remote work sites.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards, risk management, provincial OH&S regulations and safe work procedures.
  • Successful candidate must commit to working the entire tree planting season, from mid- to late April through mid-August.
  • Proven ability to lead by example and enforce policies respectfully but firmly.
  • Self-motivated and able to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.
  • Must be confident in making difficult decisions independently, even when facing potential pushback from the broader team.
  • The role involves working in challenging terrain and requires physical resilience and perseverance.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in isolated environments.
  • Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with pre-identified safety policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., OH&S, WorkSafe, COR).
  • Conduct on-site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and audits of crews working in remote locations.
  • Identify and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately, document findings and corrective actions.
  • Provide the safety manager with the information needed to investigate near misses, incidents, and injuries; support in preparing detailed reports and recommend preventive actions.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE, tools, and equipment according to manufacturer and company guidelines.
  • Provide field coaching and mentoring to promote a strong safety culture and employee accountability.
  • Communicate regularly with management on safety performance, risk trends, and training needs.
  • Other duties as required.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $22–$30 per hour, depending on experience and education.
