About The Position

The Safety Coordinator helps improve the overall safety of the refinery workplace. Their duties include assessing safety, enforcing safety standards and educating employees.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Strong knowledge or CalOSHA
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • OSHA 30 Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years previous experience in professional safety and/or occupational health role in large scale manufacturing or heavy industrial process environment such as petroleum / chemical industry

Responsibilities

  • Be present in the field; spend 80% of work time walking the field and 20% in the office
  • Actively participate in the OnCall program and rotation
  • Be an example of the safety culture and encourage others to follow (e.g., wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times)
  • Report all incidents, near misses, property damages, motor vehicles accidents and environmental hits immediately
  • Report first to the Health and Safety Advisor, if not available report to the Health and Safety Manager
  • Text messages are approved for low grade incidents. All other incidents must be reported by phone call
  • Enter the event into OnSpring immediately, keep all names and companies out of the report
  • When an incident occurs, make the proper notifications and find out as much as possible and enter the incident in OnSpring as soon as reasonably possible (remember to keep names/contractor names out of the initial report)
  • Attend tool box meetings/tailgates with contractors
  • If you see a hazard, notify the correct department to mitigate and follow-up as necessary
  • Review and audit permits and (Job Hazard Analysis) JHA’s, ask questions and give positive feedback
  • Conduct risk assessments as needed
  • Participate in project and turnaround safety committee meetings and audits
  • Observe, correct, coach and mentor on safe work practices
  • Inspect and log safety equipment to be in compliance
  • Conduct safety training for new hires and refresher training annually
  • Conduct LOTO, Confined Space and various safety audits using current Central Valley Renewable Fuels, LLC. (CVRF) policies and procedures, ensure employees/contractors are following safety policies and protocols
  • Regularly communicate with Operations
  • Remain current on facility policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with both CVRF policy and procedures and CalOSHA regulations
  • File permits as needed
  • Investigate incidents, report findings using root cause analysis
  • Review open investigations that are assigned in OnSpring, close incidents after review and management sign off
  • Participate as needed in the CVRF Safety Committee
  • Complete Computer-Based Training in a timely manner
  • Enter work orders in Maximo
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
