About The Position

San Diego State University is seeking a Field Operations Lead/Parking Lead to coordinate parking and traffic related functions and ensure the smooth, day-to-day operations of Transportation Services. Reporting to the Associate Director, this position plays a key role in leading enforcement representatives, student assistants, and operational activities that support the safety and efficiency of campus parking services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a California Driver’s License
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance, and ability to lift 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Repeatedly, sit, bend, walk for extended hours, stand and have repetitive arm movement for long periods of time, exposure to car and flare fumes, and the ability to tow equipment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to parking and traffic control.
  • Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.
  • Working knowledge of parking-related equipment and technology.
  • Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Working knowledge of applicable radio systems.
  • Experience, observing and recalling details and incidents, as well as detecting and responding appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
  • Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of prior experience working in parking field operations relating to the enforcement of the California Vehicle Code and California Education Code preferred.
  • One or more years of experience working with parking enforcement automated systems (enforcement devices, mobile printers, sign printers, License Plate Readers, Pay Stations, mobile RIMS) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Leadership, Communications, Criminal Justice Administration, Public Administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience leading and supervising event operations, including coordinating workflows among multiple vendor partners or similar is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead work, direction, and daily oversight for a team of Parking Enforcement Representatives and 12-15 student assistants.
  • Conduct training, update manuals, and provide lead work and team assignments to ensure operational objects are met.
  • Patrol campus on foot or by vehicle to enforce parking rules and regulations.
  • Serve as a shift lead, respond to service calls, and maintain a visible presence across campus.
  • Assist with the administration, training, and direction of student participants, ensuring program effectiveness and professional development opportunities.
  • Lead and coordinate parking operations for special events, collaborating with campus personnel and external partners as needed.
  • Maintain and manage operational equipment and inventory to support daily activities and special event operations.
  • Provide documentation, reporting, and operational updates to the Associate Director; contribute to the continuous improvement of department workflows.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and emergency callouts tied to special events or emergency campus needs.
