About The Position

The Field Meter Mechanic III performs meter reader and specialist duties, including reading watthour and demand meters, installing and removing self-contained watthour meters, and testing single-phase self-contained watthour meters. The role also programs and reads solid-state watthour meters, checks meter installations for company requirements and energy diversion, and uses customer records and other databases to complete work. This is a union-represented position. The scheduled hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employees may be assigned to respond to emergency situations outside their normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Industrial Electronics/Electricity, or equivalent combined related education and experience, including coursework in basic electrical theory.
• Previous related metering, meter reading, or instrumentation experience.
• Understanding of and ability to apply electrical theory.
• Mechanical aptitude and manual and finger dexterity.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove, and change single-phase and polyphase self-contained watthour meters.
• Read watthour demand meters.
• Program and read solid-state watthour meters.
• Pre-wire metering devices under the direction of a qualified employee.
• Examine indicating instruments and test devices.
• Test single-phase self-contained meter installations for compliance with company requirements and for energy diversion.
• Access online customer records, meter tracking, and other databases to obtain necessary information.
• Complete necessary paperwork.
• Respond to emergency situations when assigned, potentially outside normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
