About The Position

Under general supervision, the Meter Service Mechanic installs, removes, adjusts, and repairs residential and commercial gas metering equipment, as well as residential heating and water-heating equipment. The role includes customer appliance service, gas-service connections and disconnections, meter and ERT-device work, piping work, and investigation of gas odors and high-bill complaints. The employee communicates professionally with customers and responds to on-call emergencies. This is a rotating day and evening shift position that may require extensive overtime and emergency restoration assignments outside normal responsibilities, hours, or location. It is a union-represented position, and employees entering the role must join the union. The position is safety-sensitive and subject to drug testing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience as a Meter Service Mechanic or equivalent is required.
• Must hold one of the listed licenses: preferred S1, S2, S3, or S4; second preference S5, S6, S7, S8, P1, or P2; acceptable D1 or D2; minimally acceptable G1 or G2.
• External candidates must successfully complete company-approved EEI CAST aptitude testing.
• Ability to inspect areas that are not handicapped-accessible.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and lift and move materials weighing more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Visual acuity sufficient for wiring tasks, including distinguishing cable color codes.
• Familiarity with MS Windows-based applications and data entry.
• Available to work extensive overtime when required and rotating day and evening shifts.
• Must reside within 30 minutes of the area work center.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to work with flammable gas and be exposed to cutting oils and normal environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and moderate noise.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove, adjust, and repair residential and commercial gas metering equipment and residential heating and water-heating equipment.
• Reconnect and disconnect gas services.
• Service customer-owned gas appliances.
• Investigate gas odor complaints and provide repairs.
• Install, remove, and change gas meters of various sizes and types.
• Investigate high-bill complaints.
• Remove, replace, and install ERT devices.
• Remove, repair, replace, and install piping of various sizes and types.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with customers regarding complaints.
• Respond to on-call emergencies and emergency restoration assignments as required.
