About The Position

Norcon, a Chicago-based General Contractor founded in 1999, manages construction for commercial and high-end residential projects nationwide. This internship is for Engineering or Construction Management students interested in Field Management, offering experience from preconstruction to closeout. Candidates with ties to the North Lawndale community are encouraged to apply. The internship requires working at a project site trailer at 3216 W Ogden Avenue, Chicago, IL 60623. The internship runs from June 8, 2026, to August 21, 2026 (end date flexible), with applications due by June 1, 2026. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Ability to travel to job sites and vendor locations
  • Be responsible and accountable for projects
  • Have strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • Be strongly committed to safety
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a permanent, full-time basis

Responsibilities

  • Ensure drawing sets are up to date
  • Review drawings for overall understanding of project
  • Identify key issues such as project scope gaps and missing work
  • Obtain project specifics
  • Review all addendums, ASIs, ASKs, SSKs or other sketches, RFI’s and Submittals
  • Review latest construction schedule
  • Post all job signage in visible areas at jobsites
  • Have subcontractors correct identified violations, and document corrections
  • Walk jobsite with 3rdParty Safety Consultant (Safety check)
  • Communicate RFI responses to affected subcontractor foreman upon receipt
  • Maintain full-size drawing set onsite (i.e. construction history set)
  • Provide plan table for trades to reference construction drawing set
  • Insert drawing sets as they are issued and markup previous versions
  • Insert sketches where they are associated to drawings
  • Maintain current drawing and sketch log for reference, including weekly check-ins with PM for updates
  • Be familiar with submittal log and schedule including awareness of items pending approval
  • Review approved shop drawings
  • Understand Certification of Occupancy requirements and generate short list to track
  • Review project specifications to understand items outstanding
  • Inventory attic stock materials to determine what is owners or needs to be removed
  • Track progress on punch list items daily, advising PM on subcontractor’s schedule issues
  • Generate and track ROJ logs
  • Generate and track QAQC lists
  • Other duties as assigned
