About The Position

The Field Engineering Intern position is for PCL Construction Services, Inc., part of the PCL Family of Companies (PCL), located at their project site in Abilene, Texas. This role is for students available to work full-time from May to August 2027. PCL is expanding its data center business and is looking for a motivated Field Engineering Student to support this growth. The company has a long history of 119 years and is a major general contractor in North America. This internship offers the chance to gain hands-on experience, develop skills through mentorship and PCL's College of Construction, build connections through student events, and provides clear pathways to full-time roles, with over 150 students hired last year.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a degree relevant to the construction industry (e.g. construction management, construction engineering, construction technology, etc.)
  • Desire to pursue a career in Solar/Renewable Energy and construction project management, field supervision, or estimating.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and 18 years of age or older
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to travel to and from the job site
  • Able to work full time from May to August 2027 at our project site in Abilene, Texas
  • Able to navigate through a construction site on a daily basis, climb ladders and stairs
  • Employment with PCL is contingent upon passing a substance abuse test conducted by a third party
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Field/Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents
  • Conducts safety audits and quality audits
  • Reads and understands drawings and specifications
  • Logs submittments and process RFI's
  • Assists with surveying and project layout
  • Maintains and updates field drawings, field equipment and records
  • Assists with coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and field staff
  • Attends relevant project meetings
  • Prepares memos, letters, meeting minutes, contracts, and other forms and documents
  • Assists with project documentation requirements
  • Assists with estimating and soliciting subcontractors and/or suppliers for information and pricing
  • Performs other duties as assigned
