About The Position

The Field Engineer is responsible for monitoring activities at assigned construction sites and projects. This role inspects construction sites daily, works with vendors to schedule deliveries, and ensures that materials arrive on time. The Field Engineer tracks and records site conditions, project progress, earthwork balances, and trucking and aggregate deliveries, and reports project issues, scope changes, and opportunities to the Project Manager for review. This position works to ensure that all state, federal, and industry codes and specifications are followed, reports any deviations to management, and assists in implementing corrections. This position reports to the Project Manager.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of prior construction site work experience is a plus. Specific experience in earthwork and/or utility construction is preferred.
  • Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures related to heavy civil construction.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels, from clients and management to workers and subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize and correct discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of Viewpoint, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project scheduling software, and Bid2Win is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to foremen, superintendents, and the Project Manager regarding project material controls, including delivery dates, construction schedules, and design requirements, to ensure additional costs are minimized.
  • Work with the Project Manager to maintain business and work plans.
  • Maintain and track all field-related action items such as minutes of contractor safety meetings, superintendent daily reports, weather logs, punch list activities, delays, NCRs, and PCOs, and verify completion.
  • Participate in daily Teambook safety meetings.
  • Utilize software management tools to maintain all project documentation.
  • Record and track statistics relative to materials and quantities.
  • Track and manage all components of trucking and hauling with accuracy in quantities, coding, time, and measurement.
  • Catalog project closeout materials, O&M manuals, and redlines to the owner once the project is complete.
  • Understand and obtain all necessary work permits.
  • Schedule, receive, and verify material deliveries.
  • Verify shipping invoices match what is delivered to the site.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory list of materials on hand.
  • Help superintendents and foremen track costs correctly by providing accurate job numbers and phase codes.
  • Measure work and provide final quantities for invoicing and reporting to the customer.
  • Verify the billing of equipment on site against weekly reports provided by the equipment department and correct any variances.
  • Report any field discrepancies to the Project Manager for review.
  • Take photos, record field progress, and file findings for future reference.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
